Nymphs and Sprites
Notes: this is not completely based on Pokemon. It’s actually part of NPMP, which are fanfics I make that don’t have the same setting as that in the tv show or manga. NPMP stands for Non Pocket Monsters Plot. This means the plot can’t happen on pokemon, but I have the characters and the pokemon anyway.
Beware this isn’t my best work and it’s not as carefully written as other fanfics I’ve done. Please consider this!!!
Also, I’m using Ash’s mom’s Japanese first name since I just sort of like it better ^_^.
**
Aloft in the high castle of the thunder nymphs, where only wind nymphs and sprites could see, there was a young thunder nymph by the name of Ash, who lived with his mother, Queen Hanako.
Ash walked along the golden palace in the clouds, its winding halls were huge and lead to places he'd never been showed to. He was a young nymph who was always very curious and playful, but he knew the royal life as boring and he hated tradition.
"Ash," said Hanako. Her simple golden threaded dress was brought to life by her crown that sparkled in the bright sunlight. Her beauty matched the cuteness of Ash's face and the golden uniform he wore. "You seem so restless, yet all you do is sigh and stare out the window. Does something trouble you?"
Ash was sitting in front of one of the windows, staring down at the ground below where a large forest on an island was settled on the ocean.
"No, Mother," he said in a boring tone.
"How can you say no? Look at yourself! Such a long face doesn't mean the cheerfulness you were meant to have."
Ash flicked off a piece of stone and it toppled down to the clouds.
"I'm perfectly content, Mother," he said.
"I know, why don't you play with your little pet. The one you just adore so much? The Pikachu?" Hanako crouched down, turning to one of the halls in the room. "Pikachu!"
At hearing his name, Pikachu ran out of the shadows and trotted over to them happily. "Pika! Pikapi!"
Hanako walked away, her golden slippers making a clicking sound at each step.
Ash looked down at Pikachu and stroked his fur. He purred with happiness and rubbed against Ash's hand. "At least you're not boring, Pikachu." Ash looked out the window again. Pikachu popped his head out from under Ash's arm to see what was outside.
"Pikaa!"
"There must be something out there that's more exiting. A boy can't spend his life looking at the same color forever."
"Pikachu!" said Pikachu, agreeing with Ash.
"Maybe we should get away from this place and see what's down there, huh, Pikachu?"
"Pika!"
"Hm." Ash looked out at the bottom of the clouds. "I wonder if it's solid."
"Pikachu," said Pikachu, not sure as well.
"Well, I'll just have to see for myself! Come on, Pikachu!" exclaimed Ash and picked him up.
"Ash?" said a familiar voice. "What are you doing?"
Ash had his leg up on the window when he saw May behind him.
"Err, umm..." he stuttered then abruptly took down his leg. "Just… getting some fresh air is all!"
"Oh, Ash, you're so silly," said May and she giggled.
Ash thought May was beautiful. It was easy to see he had a slight crush oh her, but he still didn't like her dippy personality and the annoying way she giggled. Yet still, he had to marry her, which didn't please him at all.
May walked away and he sighed. Ash propped his leg back up on the windowsill and looked down again. "Those clouds better be solid," he said. "But, even if it’s not, better look out, here we come!"
Ash still never learned how to fly so he depended on having a good cushioning for wherever he landed at. He fell straight down, his eyes closed and he was expecting the worst when landing on the cloud, but all he felt was a whisk of moisture on his body.
"Huh? What was that?" he wondered and didn’t see the cloud anymore. He looked up and could see the cloud above him. "Okaaaaay…"
Ash wasn’t sure weather he should be scared or not, so he did nothing except make sure Pikachu didn’t fall out of his arms.
Looking downwards he could see just the beach and the forest coming together, along with the ocean. He hoped the landing would be as soft as he wanted.
There was a rustle in the shrubs below as a shadowed figure looked up at Ash, then disappeared.
Right before Ash and Pikachu met their maker on the beach a small pink creature hurried out and started to shape into a bed of seaweed. Ash and Pikachu landed on it, giving a slight squishing sound.
"Dittooo!" the seaweed squealed.
"Wha?" Ash mumbled. He was half-aware of his surroundings and felt dizzy.
The seaweed suddenly glowed and became the pink ‘thing’ again, which scrambled from under Ash’s back and ran away into the bushes.
Ash shook his head, feeling weary and sick. "What…" he said, now actually completing his previous word.
Ash shook his head again and looked to see if Pikachu was all right. A shadow cascaded over him while he stroked the lively yellow mouse.
"Who the heck are you," somebody said. It sounded like a girl whose tone was quite disgusted, if not just careless or bored.
Ash looked up. He saw a girl looking down at him. She still had one leg back at her last step in the sand and her right hand was on her hip while her left was slightly behind and held a strange stone object.
She had scruffy salty hair that was tied up in a diagonal ponytail and a dusty looking face. She wore dark blue tight fabric that looked like a soft plastic. It had two pieces so her belly showed a little. Scattered around her were turquoise scales and she had gills on the sides of her neck. The foot laid back had a black boot, yet the foot closest to him was bare.
Ash stared at her. She looked weird.
"Well, are you going to answer me or what?" she said and crossed her arms.
"Tokie?" said an egg-like animal behind her.
"…" was Ash’s reply. He suddenly couldn’t speak. This strange girl that looked like she was a crossbreed of a fish and a nymph who roughed out herself was standing before him, staring down at him like he was the lowest life form she’d ever met. He loved her. Her disgusted face almost made her more beautiful than she would have normally.
"Hello-o. Kid? Kid, are you okay? What’s your name?"
Ash snapped out of his phase. "Oh, ah, m-my name’s Ash."
"Well… ‘Ash’… your name fits you perfectly. You’re only lucky I found a ditto to give you padding. You sure look tired. You okay?"
"Some information of this place could help a little. Where am I?"
"We’re on a beach, what do you think?"
"What’s a beach? What’s this brownish yellow stuff? Who are you?"
"A beach is where we are now, this ‘brownish yellow stuff’ is sand, and my name is Misty. And just where are you from?"
"Up there," he replied, pointing at the large cloud in the sky.
"You mean that huge cloud that’s always hanging around? How can you be from there? Is a cloud!"
"Huh? No, I live in my palace."
"What?!" Misty exclaimed until she noticed something glitter from under Ash’s black hair.
Misty lifted up a lock of his hair and could see a pure gold band was wrapped around his head with white and black jewels on it.
"No way!" she screamed and backed up.
"What?" asked Ash, clueless at what this girl was talking about.
"You’re part of the royal family of the Rolling Thunders?!"
"Yeah, I’m the prince of the thunder nymphs," said Ash timidly. He picked up Pikachu. "And this is my pet Pikachu!"
"Pika!"
Misty ignored the pikachu. "No wonder you look so weak and stupid…"
"Hey!"
"Imagine that," she said, looking up. "A girl like me, meeting a royal nymph instead of some stupid tree sprite again. Hey, he’s kind of cute too…"
Misty looked down at Ash and held out her hand.
"Huh?" was all Ash said, not knowing what she was doing.
"Grab my hand, weirdo. How do you expect me to help you up if you don’t hold my hand?"
Ash obeyed, blushing when gripping her hand. Her grip was very hard, though and he almost fell forward when she pulled him up off the ground.
Ash looked up at Misty. She was only a few inches taller than he was but she still looked like a giant. "So," she said, walking to the creature behind her. "You have a pikachu? I didn’t think you petty pampered nymphs ever trained pokemon."
"What? Training? My pikachu? Pikachu’s just my pet."
Misty stopped in her tracks. "Your pet?! You mean you keep them as pets?"
"Well, yeah," he replied, then quickly changed the subject. "So what kind of nymph are you?"
"I’m not any kind of nymph, Princey. I’m a water sprite."
Ash’s eyes widened. A sprite? This was a sprite?
"You’re a sprite? But, I thought sprites were huge primitive demons that sucked blood out of living things and looked like huge monsters with sharp claws and long snake-like tongues and they can trick people into falling in love and suck the life out of them when they get close enough."
Misty chuckled and walked to Ash. She leaned in forward until her face was only a centimeter away. She smiled at him, showing the top row of her teeth and he could see small fangs.
"DON’T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT US LIKE THAT AGAIN!" she screamed in his face and Ash cowered back.
Misty puffed out some air and walked back to her creature. "Why don’t you just go back to that palace of yours," she said, but if he did, she’d miss that cute face of his.
"I can’t."
"And why not?"
"I never learned how to fly," he replied and gave a sad look.
Misty turned around, one eyebrow raised. "You mean thunder nymphs have to LEARN how to fly?"
"Yeah. Don’t you need to learn how to swim?"
Misty scratched the back of her head and for the last time, she walked back to Ash, grabbed his arm and dragged him over to her creature.
"You haven’t walked around on the ground much, have you, Princey…"
**
Ash and Misty both sat next to each other behind the shrubs and Pikachu and Togepi sat together between them.
"Tokie, tokie, briiiiiiii!" chirped the strange egg-like animal.
"What exactly is that egg thing?"
"It’s a Togepi. I found it floating around in a lake nearby."
Ash couldn’t help but look up at Misty’s face once in a while. He’d study her face and realized how beautiful she looked, even though she had the rugged looks of a sprite and the salty water had damaged her hair. She must be living in the ocean. He noticed the red and orange spoon-like object that was placed next to her.
"And what’s that?"
Misty made an "Ugh" sound when she looked down at it. "My father is a pokemon researcher who has found this way of containing pokemon in these objects and it will help them rest inside. This one’s on the fritz. It has my psyduck inside and each time I want a different one to come out, he comes out. Besides that, he’s so dumb and he seems to always have a headache!"
"Psy-duck?" Ash repeated, rolling his tongue around the words.
"I’ll, ahh, show you later," she said. Misty stood up, picking up Togepi as well. "Now then. This is getting boring, so let’s just go take a walk or something. And I know a place that’s really romanti- I mean, really beautiful and peaceful."
Misty blushed, but still kept a stern face and gripped Ash’s hand.
To him, it felt hard and unusual. It was especially strange that somebody was treating him like he was lower-leveled. Though he was too scared to object to her rudeness. She looked threatening and dangerous so he had no other choice but to follow and obey her.
While walking through the bushes and thick rain forest full of palm trees and wild flowers they came upon a river that spread as far as they could see.
"Well, you’re certainly in no kind of dress to be swimming in. Don’t you have anything water-resistant?" asked Misty.
"Why would I need it? Why would I swim?"
"Duh, we can’t walk around the river so we need to swim across."
"Swim? You mean… you mean actually go across the water?"
"No…" said Misty, backing up. "Don’t tell me you can’t swim…"
"I can move around in a bath tub," he said.
"What’s a bath tub? One of those silly things royal snobs have, I guess," she said.
Misty looked at Ash’s childish face, which gave a frightened look, but she still couldn’t help but love the little boy. She didn’t want to show it just yet, though.
She knew he was scared of swimming, so she only had two ideas, and she didn’t have the patients to build a bridge. That left…
"I know I’m going to regret this," she said.
Misty walked to the edge of the river and knelt down on all fours.
"Alright, get on," she said.
Ash, at the moment looked confused. "What?"
"Get on my back and I’ll swim close the surface so you don’t drown yourself," she replied with an impatient tone.
Ash was too scared not to disobey her once again. All together embarrassing moments were happening just because the two had no way of disagreeing. There was no way this couldn’t happen.
Ash didn’t want to hurt the girl, still thinking of her as a monster that could kill him when getting angry, yet when he first placed his hand on her scaled back, she didn’t move or squirm. He set his knee lower on her back, along with his other hand and other knee.
Pikachu was on his shoulder while Togepi swam across the river ahead of them.
Misty slowly moved herself into the water, getting used to the extra weight on her back. She tried not to sink down or let her back under water for Ash’s sake.
‘There’s got to be something Princey will pay me back for after this,’ she thought as she swam across the river.
It was hard to keep balance since Ash was still almost as big as Misty and it was hard to scrunch up on her back. Small rustles of the river almost made Ash fall off and he toppled over a little. His arms were bent up and his stomach was against his thighs. He looked like a frog and a water glider at the same time.
Misty sweated. She gave an exasperated look, but blushed and closed her eyes calmly. "Look, you may want to get in a safer position since that may be best for both of us."
"W-what would that be?" asked Ash. He could feel Pikachu’s claws gripping his shirt in the slight confusion as well.
Misty opened her eyes. "Well, if you don’t mind your sleeves getting wet you can start off by holding onto my stomach."
"Err…" Ash blushed deeply. He’d feel stupid.
"Geeze, Princey, just do it, I don’t care. Just try and hold onto me somewhere or I won’t be able too keep this up," she said fiercely.
Ash decided to take a better choice than her stomach and slowly wrapped his arms around her neck. Misty could feel some of his breathing on her shoulder as his head was now close to hers.
Misty sighed out a hum and closed her eyes again as she followed Togepi across the lake.
"Is something wrong, Misty?" asked Ash, thinking she became depressed.
"No, it’s okay," she replied. "I’m fine."
Ash waited a while before leaning in closer to her. Despite the awkward position, the sound of the rushing river and the smooth movements Misty gave while effortlessly swimming across felt relaxing and Ash didn’t feel as scared…
"Can you stop breathing on my gills? They’ll dry out if you keep on doing that!" she screamed.
…But then again, she was still a sprite, and a giant.
**
They continued walking along the path, Togepi in front, Misty behind, and Ash and Pikachu trailed last. Ash still felt scared of Misty.
Misty looked down and noticed a small footprint on the dirt.
"Wait!" she said.
Ash stopped immediately. Misty looked down at the footprint and examined it. She sniffed it a little and noticed the familiar stench like a skunk that it left.
A banana peel fell on top of her head and she looked up in reaction.
"MankEEEEE!" a high-pitched voice said.
"Stay back!" she ordered.
"MankEEEE!"
"MankEEEEE!"
"EEEEE!"
Misty could see several hidden animals in the palm trees. Though the mankey didn’t jump down. Instead a larger monkey-like animal with metal bands around its wrists and ankles jumped down.
"Pppprrrime-ape!" it said.
"What’s that?!" exclaimed Ash.
"Primeape," said Misty softly.
The primeape leaped towards Ash first but Misty elbowed it in the chest and it fell back. "I won’t let you hurt him!" she shouted.
Ash made a small whispered surprised sound when he saw Misty standing in front of him and fighting the primeape.
The animal became angry at Misty’s hard strike and got up again. She picked up a long bamboo stick nearby and held it in front of her. The primeape leaped at her but she fended it off by hitting it back with the stick.
"Leave him alone, he didn’t do anything!"
Ash stared at Misty. She was protecting him. She was protecting him and all before she was like a walking danger field that could explode and beat him up at anytime.
Misty kept on kicking away the beast.
"Ppppri!"
It leaped up once again, now aiming to charge at her. It was about to land right on top of her to thrash her skull into small pieces, but she finally punched it hard in the chest again, sending it flying out across the path.
It only stood up once more to try again. It looked at the boy who still cowered behind Misty. It made a rush at him and Ash made a small yelp in fear.
Ash closed his eyes, preparing for the worst when he saw the primeape looking at him directly.
Though he felt nothing the moment after. He opened one eye and could see Misty had bashed the monster with the bamboo on the head. She panted slowly, but still stood. She threw away the stick and turned to Ash.
He looked up at her and she seemed even larger since he was sitting on the ground just unfolding from his curled up ball of fright.
"You okay, or am I the only person who got beat up," she asked him.
Ash didn’t reply. He only nodded. He wanted to thank her so much and tell her that he must be in love with her, but he couldn’t.
"Maybe you should rest," he suggested, getting a worried face when he heard Misty’s pants.
"No, that’s okay, Prince. We need to keep on going so the mankey don’t follow what that primeape did," she said.
Misty picked up Togepi and decided to carry it the rest of the way.
**
By now the rain forest had turned more into a forest of pine trees and spruce. They saw eevee dancing around and a usual hoot of a hoo-hoo.
"Here we are," she said. Misty pulled off two large bushes and went through. Ash quickly followed and he saw what really did look beautiful and peaceful.
A waterfall was placed off to the right, creating a lake that was separated into two parts by rocks. A grassy area surrounded the lake and around the grass was more of the forest.
Misty took a look at Ash, who had been tired out from such a long walk that he wasn’t used to. "We’ll stay here for the rest of the day. It looks like you need to get washed up."
Ash looked at himself a little. His clothes were covered with sand and dirt and his face was unusually oily and sweaty.
**
Misty wrapped a cloth around her self and went into one side of the lake where the waterfall was pouring. Only one absent rock let the water get into Ash’s side.
The cloth had always just been laying around for her use but now it was ripped in half for Ash’s use.
Ash, on the other side, leaned against the rocks and could see Pikachu and Togepi running around the field. He looked down in the shallow water and could see some of the dirt and sand drifting away from his body.
He looked up at the sky, wondering what Misty was doing. Though at the exact same time, Misty started to wonder as well. Ash looked away then and Misty peered up from the top. Seeing he was obviously doing nothing, she slid back down again, and Ash looked up.
"Peerrrrrrrrr…"
"What was that?" asked Misty.
Ash looked forward and at the bank there was a large cat with a red jewel on her forehead staring at him.
"A really big cat…" said Ash worriedly.
"What?!" Misty screamed and forgetting they were ever taking a bath she jumped high on the tall rocks.
A persian was growling at both of them. It seemed that perhaps she was the one who wanted to rest in the water as well.
"Scat, cat!" hissed Misty and she jumped into the water, landing in front of Ash.
The persian stepped into the water a little, then moved her whole body in and dog-paddled towards them.
"I though cats hated the water…" said Ash.
"Persians like the water. They’re tigers without stripes," she replied.
"What’s a tiger?"
"Never mind…"
Misty grabbed Ash’s arm and led him to the edge, slowly inching away.
The persian growled and roared at them fiercely, trying to get them out of the lake.
Ash cowered again and hid behind Misty in fright. The persian swam quickly towards them.
"Shaaaaaaaaan!"
She swam like a torpedo at Ash, who was squirming around and decided not to go for Misty who wasn’t moving, and therefore, not thought to be alive.
"Get away!" Misty shouted. She threw herself, arms first, at the persian. She fell on her back and Misty waited for her to rise up again to fight her.
The persian now realized the ‘thing’ in front of the boy was alive and strong so she backed away a little.
"Shaaaaaaa…" she said and swam back a little more.
"Hm…" grunted Misty.
"Perrrrrrr-shaaaaaa!" it hissed again and aimed once again for Ash.
Ash shielded his face and cried out a little. The persian leaned Ash up against the rocks with her front paws which almost crushed his shoulders.
Misty pulled on the persian’s hind legs, making her separate from Ash and fall into the water, but still managed too keep up a little.
She now aimed at Misty and there was a mix of orange, tan, blue, and a lot of water.
Misty finally kicked the persian on the side and she toppled over herself in the water. She got back up again, though. Both were tired, but Misty decided to end it.
She moved her hands together, but didn’t touch them. Ash could see from behind, a blue glowing blob forming in between Misty’s hands and it started to grow. Misty fired out the blue glob, which was actually water, and it shot at the persian, who fell back once more. The persian swam slowly back to the bank and walked away, deciding she’d take a bath later.
Misty wiped her forehead with her hand and turned around to see if Ash was okay. Though when she did look at him, she realized he was bare to the waist. She looked down at herself and remembered she was right in front of him with only a cloth around her.
Misty blushed deeply for a moment, paused, and screamed…
**
Misty leaned against a tree, keeping one eye open at Ash, who was still by the lake sitting around. She saw him place a hand on his shoulder in pain and she got a worried look.
She stood up and walked over to Ash, kneeling down behind him. She put her hands on Ash’s shoulders and he jumped for a second, but Misty pushed down on him.
"Shhh…" she whispered and started to massage his shoulders slowly. "I guess she really did hurt you."
Ash didn’t say anything. He only blushed, feeling the warmth of Misty’s hands on his shoulders. The pain in his shoulders from the persian’s paws went away gradually as Misty rubbed back and forth. She handled the massaging gently, though, as Ash had expected anything from her to be rough on him.
Misty smiled a little and stopped the massaging. "Feel better now?"
"Yes," he replied. "Thank you."
Misty slid her hands down and clasped them together, leaning over Ash’s shoulder.
"Hmm? ‘Thank you?’ Is that all I get for saving your life twice?" she asked.
"What are you getting at?" said Ash.
Misty retracted her arms and hands from Ash and turned around half way, blushing. "I guess all I’m trying to say is… that I love you," she said softly. Her eyes became half closed and she cupped her hand around her mouth.
Ash’s eyes widened a little and he twisted his head back to look at Misty.
"And I’m not afraid to deny that," she added.
Ash looked down at his boots. "I’m not either."
Misty looked up at Ash, and he turned his head around again.
"And you mean that…" Misty said, as a query but still she knew his answer, and so propped her hands on the grass.
"Yes," he replied and moved his face closer.
"I guess the world is just full of many surprises," she whispered and smiled.
They kissed, yet Ash couldn’t keep his estranged position for long and his arms became tired. He slipped off and fell to the ground, getting a good view of Misty’s knee.
Misty chuckled stood up. "I should say you nymphs really are weak if you can even hold a position for a kiss."
"We aren’t weak! At least most of us aren’t," retorted Ash, picking himself up from the ground.
"I guess you’re not one of the ‘most’, now are you, Princey?"
Misty helped Ash up and noticed his depressed face.
"Hey, now, lighten up!" she said and patted him firmly on the back. "It doesn’t matter if you’re weak; you’ve got me!"
Ash laughed a little and stood up as well. "I never want to go back," he said softly.
"Ash…" said Misty, "You can’t."
"Why not?"
"You live in a palace, up in the clouds, and you haven’t learned how to fly. That’s why." Misty grabbed his arm and dragged him along. "Now come on, I want to go somewhere."
"Where are we going?"
"Just somewhere," she said.
The voices of Ash, Misty, and their pokemon were heard as they scampered across the clearing and through the forest. The voices echoed across the skies and along the seas. The island held their life, and they lived as long as it could hold them, and as long as how much time it took for Ash to hold still during a kiss. ^^;;
